Guided Reading on Internet Sites for:

COMPARING AND CONTRASTING FROGS and TOADS

FROG LIFE CYCLE Printable page http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/amphibians/Frogprintout.shtml with a link to TOAD: Click to go to the TOAD page. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/amphibians/Toadprintout.shtml

Here you will find a Toad diagram. Print several, or go back and forth between the frog and toad screens to discuss the visible differences between frogs and toads. Have students help you construct a T chart comparing the two animals physical characteristics.

Click here for a sample T chart which compares more than physical characteristics alone.

Click here for the Venn Diagram that the kids eventually decided we needed to use as a graphic organizer instead of the T chart.

Frog of the month site is a fun place to gather photo images, facts and opinions submitted by pet owners, the world over, about their pet frogs and toads. We enjoyed paired guided reading on this site of pre-selected animals. The readability range is from young child to adult, so it is wise for the teacher to select specific frogs for the guided reading lessons. Students selected facts and images were copied into “Frog Fact Books” as part of Literacy Center work time. (Students begged to stay in at recess to return to this site!) Pet owners often have links to their personal web pages, some of which are in foreign languages and interesting to view.
