GUIDED READING LESSONS ON BUTTERFLY INTERNET SITES
|
Part 1 Click on blue URL below and go here for a quick
discussion of body parts. You will click on “Anatomy” in the
purple box on the left side of the screen. The adult leader will need
to help with much of the reading. That’s okay, this is a background information
gathering session. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/ |
Part 2 If you are still working on http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/
Move on to the next link by clicking on “B’fly Species” in the
purple box on the left side of the
screen. If not, start by clicking on the blue
URL below: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/activities/printouts/paintedlady.shtml You’ll go to Information sheets about
Butterflies and Moths. Scroll down so kids can find the
butterfly that looks like the ones in our classroom. Go look in the butterfly flight cage to see how
their wings are colored. Once the
group agrees about what kind of butterflies we have in our classroom,
students need to write a sentence or two in their science journal. A Literacy Center time, students will have
time to illustrate this page by looking at our classroom specimens. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/activities/printouts/paintedlady.shtml

Part 3Click on “life cycle
link” and discuss the 4 life cycle stages. Have kids name each stage, tell how the animal’s body parts change from stage to
stage, and practice this until each child can correctly name and describe all four stages. Print
copies for kids in your group if time allows. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/ http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/activities/printouts/paintedladylifecycle.shtml You should also look at
the second site below. It also has a
life cycle graphic that will be used in an assessment
later in this unit. http://www.ci.shrewsbury.ma.us/Sps/Schools/Beal/Curriculum/butterfly/cycle/index.htm |
Part 4http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/ Click on “B’fly
Species” in the purple box on the left side of the screen. You’ll go to Information
sheets about Butterflies and Moths…scroll down then click on the title “PAINTED LADY BUTTERFLY” it will link you to facts
about our Painted lady butterflies. Read with the children, letting them take
turns touching the screen and tapping when they need help with a word. A
paper copy of this page is available to kids in the Draw Our Butterflies
Literacy Center this week as a reference for coloring their illustrations. Using the site below, compare butterfly
bodies with moth bodies and create a T chart with your group. http://butterflywebsite.com/Articles/ShowArticle.cfm?ID=65 |
