ARIZONA

Area:114,007 Square Miles  [295,276 sq. km.], including 364 sq. miles of inland water

Elevation: Highest- Humphrey's Peak, 12,633 above sea level. Lowest- 70 ft. above sea level along the Colorado River in Yuma County.

Record High:  128 degrees F [53 degrees C] at lake Havasu City on June 29, 1994.

Record low temperature: -40 degrees f (-40 degrees C) at Hawley Lake, near, McNary, on Jan 7, 1971.

Average July temperature: 80 degrees F (27 Degrees C)

Average January temperature: 41 degrees (5 degrees C)

Average Yearly precipitation : 13 in. (33cm)

Arizona is a very fascinating state. It has 4 states that border it, Nevada, California, New Mexico, and Colorado. Arizona is the sixth largest state. Its size is 113,909 square miles.

Arizona has 3 regions in the state. In the southern part of the state the region is called Basin and range region which is full of mountains and large cities.

The Colorado plateau region is Arizona’s biggest region. It takes up half of the state and is very level.

Arizona has many special places. Its most special place is the Grand Canyon. They have many tours around the Grand Canyon for people to see. They let people ride up and down the mountains. People visit it from all around the world.

 

NEW MEXICO

Area:  121,599 square miles, including 234 sq. miles of inland water.

Elevation: highest- Wheeler peak, 13,161 ft. above sea level. Lowest 2,817 above sea level at Red Bluff Reservoir in Eddy County.

Record High temperature: 116 degrees F at Orogrande on July 14, 1934, and at Artsy on June 29, 1918.

Record low temperature: -50 degrees at gavial, near Lindrith, on Feb. 1st , 1951.

Average January Temp: 34 Degrees F

Average July Temp: 74 degrees.

Average yearly precipitation: 13 in.

POLITICAL FEATURES

New Mexico is surrounded by many states. To the north there is a state called Arizona. To the northwest there is a state known as the "The Pot State" which is also known as Oklahoma. The big state called Texas is toward the east. The HUGE country called Mexico [In Spanish Mexico is called Mehico] [That is how you pronounce the country] it is to the south. On it’s West side is a skiing state called Utah. The capitol is called Santa Fe. It is located in the South west part of The United States of America.

PHYSICAL FEATURES

New Mexico is full of physical features. The state is the 6th largest state in the country! The area of the state is 121,666 miles. One of the highest peaks in all of New Mexico is called "Wheeler Peak." Plus, New Mexico is full of plains, mountains, and plateaus. The shape of New Mexico is roughly a square. New Mexico is a great place.

 

OKLAHOMA

Area: 69,903 square miles, including 1,224square miles of inland water.

Elevation: highest- Black Mesa, 4,973 above sea level.

Record High temperature: 120 degrees F at Alva on July 18, 1936; at Altus on July 19 and Aug. 12, 1936; at poteau on Aug. 10, 1936; and at Tishomingo on July 26, 1943.

Record low temperature: -27 degrees Vinita on Feb. 13, 1905, and at watts on Jan. 18 1930.

Average January Temp: 82 degrees F

Average July Temp: 37 degrees F

Average yearly precipitation: 33 in.

Oklahoma has 10 main regions.

` The Ozark Plateau extends to the northeastern part of Oklahoma from Missouri to Arkansas. This region has fast streams and steep sided river valleys.

The Prairie Plains are west and south of the Ozark Plateau.

The Arkansas River Valley, are east of the Muskogee.

The Red Bed Plains is a gently rolling plain. This region is from Kansas to Texas.

The High Plains is grassland that covers the northern section. The High Plains is lot of the interior plains and North America, including Oklahoma’s Panhandle. The Panhandle is the western portion.

The Gypsum Hills are west of the Red Bed Plains.

The Sandstone Hills region is south to the border of Kansas near the Red River. Many areas are covered with blackjacks and post oak forests.

The Red River Region is a forested and a rolling prairie. The Arbuckle Mountains are in south central Oklahoma.

The Ouachita Mountains border between Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The Witcha Mountains are in southwestern Oklahoma.

 

TEXAS

Area: 266,874square miles, including 4,959 square miles of inland water but excluding 404 square miles of coastal water.

Elevation: highest- Guadalupe peak, 8, 751 ft. Above sea level. Lowest- sea level, along the Gulf of Mexico.

Coastline: 367 miles

Record High temperature: 120 degrees F at Seymour on Aug. 12, 1936.

Record low temperature: -23 degrees F at Julia on Feb. 12 1899, and at Seminole on Feb. 8, 1933.

Average January Temp: 83 degrees F

Average July Temp: 46 degrees F

Average yearly precipitation: 27 in.

Texas is in the southwest U.S.A.  It is bordered by Louisiana to the west, Arkansas to the northeast, New Mexico the west,   Mexico to the south, and Gulf of Mexico to the Southwest.  Their 2 tallest mountains are in the Basin and range region.  The Rio Grande is 1241 miles long.
