Kindergarten Screening/Date Change

There is going to be a change on the calendar. Right now we have Kindergarten screening scheduled for March 24, 25, and 26 (the three days after Spring Break). This will be moved to May 19, 20, and 21 (the last three days of school). Due to this change, the Kindergarten students will be out of school on those three days making Friday, May 16 their last day of school. If you are planning on sending a student to Kindergarten next year, please note the change. Also, if you know of anyone who has a child and is interested in sending them to Kindergarten, let them know of the date change.

Kindergarten Parent Meeting

There will be a meeting for all parents with upcoming Kindergarteners on February 18 at 7:00 in Cheney Elementary School. This meeting will inform all parents about what to expect next year and what the screening entails. This is a great opportunity to meet our Kindergarten staff, as well. If you have a child at home who your are planning on sending to Kindergarten or are even considering sending to Kindergarten next year, please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

State Assessments

Remember that February 15 will be the night that CES will be acknowledged for their performance on the state assessments from last year. We will celebrate our 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th graders reaching the standard of excellence on all seven tests.

Clap Outs

We’ve started a new routine at CES. On the last Friday of the month we hold a clap out. This is a student recognition activity where students are applauded by other kids and adults. The activity starts with teachers nominating students. They then parade a lap through our building’s hallways while the other students go out of their classrooms and applaud as they walk by. The kids have gotten a lot out of this. It’s been great seeing them feel good about being who they are and doing what they do.
