Number of Sources

Minimum of 5 sources of 4 types including general encyclopedia, primary sources encouraged.

Historical / Poetry Compare/Contrast Research Paper

  • Develops one main idea and/or thesis statement.
  • Generates relevant, investigative, and researchable questions in order to create a thesis/hypothesis.
  • Locates and uses a variety of appropriate print and non-print resources to gather information.
  • Distinguishes between accurate and inaccurate or misleading information.
  • 4-6 pages.
  • Writes a cohesive piece that includes an introduction that draws the reader in, a body that provides information through the logical placement of facts and data, and a conclusion that reinforces the thesis statement and leaves the reader with a sense of completion.
  • Analyzes, organizes, and converts information into different forms (e.g. charts, graphs).
  • Presents findings and conclusions through a variety of media.
  • Analyzes and understands the implications and consequences of plagiarism (e.g. ethical, legal).

Persuasive Sequential Research Paper that analyzes a theme in United States history to explain patterns of continuity and change over time

 

  • Develops one main idea and/or thesis statement.
  • Generates relevant, investigative, and researchable questions in order to create a thesis/hypothesis.
  • Locates and uses a variety of appropriate print and non-print resources to gather information.
  • Distinguishes between accurate and inaccurate or misleading information.
  • Asserts an arguable proposition or opinion (thesis statement).
  • Develops historical questions on a specific topic in United States history and analyzes the evidence in primary source documents to speculate on the answers.
  • 7-10 pages.
  • Analyzes, organizes, and converts information into different forms (e.g. charts, graphs).
  • Presents findings and conclusions through a variety of media.
  • Analyzes and understands the implications and consequences of plagiarism (e.g. ethical, legal).

  • Locates and uses a variety of appropriate print and non-print resources to gather information.
  • Distinguishes between accurate and inaccurate or misleading information.
  • Asserts an arguable proposition or opinion (thesis statement).
  • Develops historical questions on a specific topic in United States history and analyzes the evidence in primary source documents to speculate on the answers.
  • 8-12 pages.
  • Analyzes, organizes, and converts information into different forms (e.g. charts, graphs).
  • Presents findings and conclusions through a variety of media.
  • Analyzes and understands the implications and consequences of plagiarism (e.g. ethical, legal).
  • Writes a cohesive piece that includes an introduction that engages the reader, an appropriate body that reinforces the writer’s position through the logical placement of evidence, and a conclusion that reinforces the thesis statement and the original position.
  • Arranges information within each paragraph in a logical and effective sequence to persuade the reader (typically 5 or more sentences).
