Compare/Contrast One Aspect of Two Cultures

  • Narrows topic to a manageable level.
  • Formulates questions in order to create a thesis.
  • Locates and uses a variety of appropriate print and non-print resources to gather information.
  • Distinguishes between accurate and inaccurate or misleading information.
  • Selects an appropriate structure for organizing and recording information in a systematic way.
  • Writes a complete piece that contains an introduction, an appropriate body, and conclusion.
  • Arranges information within each paragraph in logical order, typically 4-6 sentences.
  • Uses transitions.
  • Understands the implications of plagiarism (e.g. ethical, legal).

Thematic Essay, Wonders of World, Current Event

  • Narrows topic to manageable level.
  • Forms and revises questions for investigations, including questions arising from readings, assignments, and units of study in order to create a thesis.
  • Locates and uses a variety of appropriate print and non-print resources to gather information.
  • Distinguishes between accurate and inaccurate or misleading information
  • Selects an appropriate structure for organizing and recording information in a systematic way. (e.g. notes, outlines, charts, tables, graphic organizers)
  • Writes a complete piece that contains an engaging introduction, a developed body that provides information, and a conclusion that reinforces the thesis statement and leaves the reader with a sense of completion.
  • Arranges information within each paragraph in a logical and effective sequence…typically 5-8 sentences.
  • Selects appropriate transitions.
  • Presents findings and conclusions through a variety of media.
  • Understands the implications of plagiarism (e.g. ethical, legal).

  • Develops a cohesive piece that contains an engaging introduction, a developed body that provides information, and a conclusion that reinforces the thesis statement and leaves the reader with a sense of completion.
  • Arranges information within each paragraph in a logical and effective sequence…typically 5-8 sentences.
  • Selects appropriate transitions.
  • Presents findings and conclusions through a variety of media.
