Thesis Statements

The focus statement or the thesis statement is the sentence that expresses what your paper is about and how you feel about it.  It is usually found in the introduction and is often the last sentence of your introduction.  The rest of your paper should explain to your reader why you feel this way.

·       Similar to a topic sentence

·       Needs to state what the paper is about and express an opinion about the topic.

 

        Example:  The wooly mammoth is a prehistoric animal that deserves our respect.
