SPAGHETTI BRIDGE BUILDING CODE
|
|
|
1. |
The bridge must be built of spaghetti and joints may
be joined only by glue sticks of the variety used in hot glue guns (welders). |
|
2. |
Draw plans of the bridge to show three views: the
view from one end (if you were driving onto the bridge), the
view from the side (as if you were looking at the bridge from the river), and
the view from the top (looking down from a plane). |
|
3. |
When building the bridge, apply glue sparingly only
to join the ends of the steel beams or the centers of steel supports which
form x's. Welding material may not be used to join a steel beam along the entire
length of another steel beam. |
|
4. |
The bridge, at all times, may touch only the painted
areas on the top of the canyon and the canyon walls. |
|
5. |
The bridge must span a minimum distance of 50 cm
across the canyon, but may not exceed 58 cm in total length. |
|
6. |
The bridge must not exceed a maximum distance of 50
cm above the floor of the canyon. |
|
7. |
The bridge must include a decking of tagboard
(highway) to provide a solid driving surface at least 5 cm wide but not
greater than 7 cm over which a small metal car of the "Hot Wheels"
or "Matchbox" variety can pass easily. |
|
8. |
The maximum mass of any bridge including the loading
platform may not exceed 200 grams. |
|
9. |
An "official loading platform" made of 1/8
inch hardboard with a metal hook attached, must be purchased from the steel
company. The loading platform must be located at the center of the bridge,
immediately below, or above the decking material. The loading platform may
not be altered in any way except to facilitate its correct placement at the
center. |
