Spaghetti Bridge Building

CONCLUSION

This unit is an exciting way to span the fields of math, technology, and business world practices.  Who would have thought building a bridge out of plain old spaghetti would have been so challenging.  Think about the learning and experiences you encountered along the way.  You and your team researched bridge history, different types of bridge designs, basic insurance, and occupations.  As in real life, different applications had to be filled out prior to beginning construction.  Your team filled out a bid worksheet to predict the eventual cost of your bridge.  A realistic accounting process, including checks, purchase orders, and a ledger, allowed your team to track expenses and obtain a final actual cost of your bridge.  And finally, we did the ultimate test to see how good your bridge was – we stress tested, finding comparison ratios like weight held per gram of the bridge’s weight, and cost per gram the bridge held.  Hopefully you had a lot of fun, and remember the motto of Canyon Insurance Company, “You’re likely to be over a cliff without us!”
