Chapter 6 Objectives:

·        The students will discover the different governmental policies on acquiring land in KS.

·        The students will examine the Homestead Act and the steps it took to gain the rights to the land.

·        The students will identify the different groups that migrated to KS during the homesteading period.

·        The students will explain the Exodusters and their reasons for coming

·        The students will research and discover Benjamin “Pap” Singleton and his effect on African American Migration to KS

·        The students will describe the “push/pull” factors of immigration to KS.

·        The students will identify the economical reasons for driving the cattle north to the railroad in KS.

·        The students will explain important vocabulary terms during KS settlement and the railroad.

·        The students will discover the importance of railroad towns and town site associations to the growth of KS.
