Current Events Spring Semester |

WELCOME!!! I am very glad that you chose to take
this elective class. As most of
you know current events is one of my favorite parts of social studies. I hope with this class you will gain more
of an understanding of the world around you! What to
expect in here: ·
We will discuss current news happenings throughout our state, country
and the world. ·
Look and laugh at the newest and funniest political cartoons! ·
Learn where every country in the world is…that’s right
EVERY country!!! J ·
Learn how historical events are playing a role in happenings around
the world today. Grading: ·
This should be a very easy A for you. You will rarely have homework and
shouldn’t need much outside thought to this class. ·
All daily work done in class will be worth 10 points. Most of the time it will be completion
grade. ·
All projects will be worth 30 points. Once again…most times will be
completion ·
EVERYTHING is pass/fail.
You will either get 100%, 50%, or a 0 Daily
Activities to Expect: ·
Daily Report: This will
usually be done by me in which I will type up some
of the major news stories of the day and discuss them with you. Many times I will go through the
history of the event to help you better understand it. o
We will have a Daily Report almost everyday. o
Sometimes I will have YOU create the daily report by researching the
newspapers and internet. ·
Political Cartoons: I
love them. You will see many
throughout the semester. ·
Upfront and Current Event Magazines: We will read stories and look at the
interesting tid-bits. ·
Map Exercises: o
Computer game (sooo much fun!) o
Quizzes o
ALL countries of the world!!! ·
Different activities involving researching different news stories Projects to
Expect: ·
2008 Year in Review Power Point Presentation ·
Quarter Reports: o
Four times this year you will have a Quarter Report due. o
There are four topics… §
Local News §
State News §
National News §
World News o
You will be required to find a news story on each of these topics,
create a poster explaining the event and present to the class. |
