This will be the first of four research
projects required for the 6th grade year. Each student will choose
a disease they want to learn more about and have an interest in. |
Students will be familiar with the
similarities and differences between these. They will create graphic
organizers to show this: example would be a Venn Diagram and a concept map. |
Students will be introduced to the AIDS
virus and how you can get it. This is a sexually transmitted disease so we
will be discussing this using correct terms and facts. If you have concerns
about this please contact me. |

Research Guidelines 1.)
Pick a disease. 2.)
Create a research folder with topic questions.(4) 3.)
Must have at least three sources from the library. 4.)
Report has to be five paragraphs, 1 page minimum, and 2 pages maximum. 5.)
Bibliography page required. 6.)
Must be typed using double spacing and font size 12-14. |
Virus: 1.)
Not determined if they are living or not. 2.)
Not curable with medications. 3.)
Flu and cancer are examples. Bacteria: 1.)
Are living and belong to Eubacteria or Archeabacteria. 2.)
Can be cured with medications. 3.)
Can be beneficial as well as harmful. 4.)
Strep throat and food poisoning are examples. |
Ways you get AIDS: 1.)
Touching infected blood. 2.)
Sharing syringes. 3.)
Sexual intercourse. 4.)
Being born with it because mom has AIDS during pregnancy. Cannot Get AIDS: 1.)
Shaking other people’s hand. 2.)
Kissing. 3.)
Mosquitoes bite. 4.)
Sneezing, coughing, or breathing on others. 5.)
Sitting in the same spot as a person with AIDS, or traveling on the
bus next to them. 6.)
