Mathematics Philosophy

The mathematics program exists to develop mathematically literate individuals who can succeed in an every-changing world.

We believe that…

• mathematics is a complex system that requires students to communicate,

reason and problem solve in a variety of situations.

• a high level of mathematics is essential and possible for students.

• students need to be active participants in their learning.

• a student’s ability to use mathematics unlocks future adaptability.

• multiple approaches will be modeled, “i.e. cooperative learning and the use

of technology”.

• significant learning occurs when multiple strategies are constructed and

utilized by students within meaningful contexts.
