Old Business

Movie Night:
We raised $131.00 with snacks & t-shirt sales.

Movie Day—New Business: Sheila proposed that we do a movie day on the Tuesday afternoon before Thanksgiving break—we did it last year and it was very much appreciated by the teachers. It was agreed that we do it again but possibly split the school into 2 age groups possibly Kindergarten-2nd and 3rd-5th. Movie possibilities were discussed with decision to discuss final choices at the next meeting. Last year we did not start popcorn in time so a few teachers and parents will start popping popcorn at 9:45. Sheila has a list of volunteers.

T-shirts: Ann Sigwing decided to go with a simple cardinal on the back with PALS on the sleeve cuff, and "Cheney Cardinals" on the front left. The shirt will be red with white lettering. Font was discussed as was prices. We have to order at least 200 to get a price break. 200 would cost $6.15 + $1.50 for sleeve imprint. 300 would cost $5.60 +$1.30 for sleeve imprint. Diane Rich will research what we charged for last t-shirts and we will discuss how many to order and what to charge at next meeting. It was discussed that we would check with the local screen printer to see what his costs are. We will also have advance ordering so that we will not order too many and get the right sizes.

Locker Angels: All are done or are getting up by Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Kids love them!!

Teacher Angels: We had plenty of snacks for the last In-Service day. Do we need to do anything for Oct. 31 for Staff Development?? Jamie will let Sheila know if we need anything.

Playground: Jamie brought up the fact that the sand underneath the Spacenet washes away very easily. He talked to the Board about some border to keep whatever we do put down in. He had gotten a quote for some plastic edge border at $2000 for a size of 40'*40'. The Board is interested in the rubber underlay and they will split that cost with us. Jamie has not gotten any quotes yet on the rubber underlay and will be working on that in the next months or so. He did mention that it needs to be done soon. It was decided that we should go ahead and order the edge border and add whatever we choose to do later. Jamie is also looking into a grant possibility to pay for the rubber shredded mulch underlay. Karl Freund motioned to spend $2000 on the edging, Wendee Olmstead seconded it. Motion carried.

CD Maturing: November 11. $16,000 in the CD right now with $4,900 available in cash. It was decided that we would reinvest the $16,000 and keep the $4,900 available for whatever we decide to put for the underlayment on the playground.

New Business

Halloween Parties:
Parties will be October 30 since there is no school on the 31st. Babysitting was discussed and was decided that we would just have it available for the parties and not the parade. Babysitting will be in the Fine Arts Room.

Come Home for Christmas: December 6. It was decided that Pals would continue to ask each family in the school to donate 2 doz. Cookies to raise money for the Cheney Emergency Fund for their Christmas Drive. Room Parents need to call their class parents to let them know. We also need volunteers to work the booth and to get the cookies to City Hall. 1 doz. Cookies will be sold for $1.00. We will discuss this at the November meeting.

Other Business: Donna needs a copy of the Bi-laws for an example for another group. Sheila will look for them and get them to her.

Website: Jamie mentioned that there was a question as to where the minutes are located. He said that you need to click on the date of the meeting and they will come up.

Retired volunteers: Should we do anything for them during volunteer week? Sheila will research the date and the matter will be discussed again at a later date.

Box tops: Lori Johnson read the amounts. Mrs. McEwen's 2nd grade class is in the lead with 640 box tops with Mrs. Young with 571, Miss Kerschen with 443, Mrs. Kutilek with 368, and Mrs. Rice with 283. We have a total of 2855 and they will be sent in October 22 with checks cut in December. Lora Quick mentioned that we needed to decide where the money needed to go and she motioned that the it would go to the Art, Music, and PE teachers. Wendee Olmstead seconded it. Motion carried. Box Tops will be sent in again in Feb.

Next PALS Meeting: Tuesday, November 18, at 6:30
