Our
Parents are a child’s first
and most influential teachers.
The Parents as
family support and education through the earliest years of a
child’s life.
What is Parents As
Teachers?
The PAT
program is designed to provide parents with practical information to promote
the growth and development of infants and toddlers.
This
includes:
Prenatal
developmental information and guidance to help parents prepare for life’s most
important job - being a parent.
Parents As Teachers is open to any parent with a
child under 36 months of age who lives in Cheney USD 268. There are no guidelines
required for participation and this program is free.
PAT Provides:
Home visits with nationally certified
parent educators trained in child development. Visits are scheduled every four
to eight weeks during the day or evening. Visits are individualized for both
parent and child and designed to provide ideas for age-appropriate activities.
Playgroups offered as a socialization
experience for young children and their parents. These are offered during the
day and evening, provide parent/child activity sessions and provide
age-appropriate activities.
Parenting
Classes designed to give parents the positive child-rearing tools they
need to be effective parents. These are offered several times a year, during
the day or evening, and as daily workshops or weekly sessions.
Resource
Network provides information and services whose needs are beyond the
scope of the Parents as Teachers program.
Screenings offered as a source of
information about a child’s developmental level. Screenings
include language, social and motor skills and periodic monitoring of progress.
