Audacity (for Windows)

You will also need a microphone.  Be sure to plug the microphone into the computer BEFORE you turn the computer on.

 

Download Audacity and install.

Download the Lame file to convert files to MP3.  Save the file to C:  Program FilesAudacity folder

 

Once you have a file you want to export as MP3, go to FileExport as MP3.  You will be prompted to find the lame file (C:  Program FilesAudacity folder ) and select the file lame_en.dll.  You will only have to do this once.

Use these guides to get your system up and running.

 

To Record – Press the red Record button

 

To Pause – Press the blue Pause button.  You can press Record button again; the recording will continue on from where you stopped.

 

To Stop – Press the yellow Stop button.  It is a good idea to save your project when the initial recording is complete.  FileSave Project As.  If you press Record again, it will record a second track below your first track.

 

Editing

 

To Remove Unwanted Time

Click the Select icon, click and drag on the track what you want to delete and

then hit the Delete key or the Cut  icon.

 

To Silence Background Noise and Leave the Blank Space

Click and drag on the section you want to silence and click the Silence Selection icon   

 

To Add Time to the Beginning or End

Click and drag a blank area from a track and Copy.  Move the cursor where you want to add the time and paste.
