Internet Explorer Favorites (AKA Bookmarks)

 

To Add a Favorite

 

• Find the web page you want to add to Favorites
• Go to Favorites on the menu bar
• Click on Add to Favorites.  Click Create in >> if not selected. Click on the folder where you want the link.  Click OK.  It is a good idea to check the bookmark to be sure that the name accurately describes the name.  See To Rename a Folder or Bookmark to rename a bookmark.

 

 

 

To Provide Favorites to Students

Ø      Copying Favorites

·        Double click on My Computer

·        Double click on C:

·        Double click on Windows

·        Click on Show Files

·        Find the Favorites folder and double click on it

·        Select the folder or folders you want student to have.  Hold down the Ctrl key and click once with the mouse to select multiple files.

·        Go to File on the menu bar

·        Select Send to and then 3 ½ Floppy (A:)

 

TIP: Copy your favorites to a floppy disk once a week and store in a safe place.

 

Ø      Editing Favorites and Copying Disks

·        You may now open the Favorites folder on the floppy disk (My Computer and then 3½ Floppy (A:)) and delete bookmarks that you do not need by clicking once on files (or folders) you do not want and hitting the Delete key

 

Option 1

Ø      Providing Favorites on Disk

·        Once you have the bookmarks that you need, double click on My Computer

·        Right click on 3 ½ Floppy (A:)

·        Click on Copy Disk

·        Click on Start.  When prompted, put in a blank disk.  Label when finished.

·        Repeat the copy disk process to make as many copies as needed

Ø      Opening Favorites from Disk

·        Open Internet Explorer

·        Select File and then Open from the menu bar

·        Click Browse

·        Click the Look In drop down arrow and select 3½ Floppy (A:) (you may have to scroll up to find it)

·        Double click on the appropriate folder

·        In the Files of Type box, click the drop down arrow and select All Files from

·        Select the site you want to connect to

·        Click Open

·        Click OK

 

Option 2

Ø      Placing Favorites on each computer

·        Double click on My Computer

·        Double click on C:

·        Double click on Windows

·        Click on Show Files

·        Find the Favorites folder and double click on it

·        Double click on My Computer

·        Double click on 3½ Floppy (A:)

·        Click on the folder from the floppy window, hold the mouse button down and drag the folder into the Favorites window.  Release the mouse.

·        Repeat on each machine.  When you are finished, delete the folder from each machine.

 

To Organize Favorites

• Go to Favorites on the menu bar
• Click Organize Favorites
• To exit click Close

 

Ø      To Create a Folder

·        Click Create Folder

·        Type the name for your new folder and hit Enter

 

Ø      To Move Bookmarks to a Folder

·        Click once on the bookmark or folder you want to put in a folder

·        Click the Move to Folder button

·        Find the folder where you wish to place the bookmark and click on it

·        Click OK

 

Ø      To Rename a Folder or Bookmark

·        Click on the bookmark or folder you want to rename

·        Click the Rename button

·        Type the new name for the folder or bookmark

·        Hit Enter

 

Ø      To Delete a Folder or Bookmark

·        Find the file or folder you want to delete and click on it once

·        Click Delete

·        Click Yes

 

 

Ø      To Alphabetize Folders and Bookmarks

·        Double click on My Computer

·        Double click on C:

·        Double click on Windows

·        Click on Show Files

·        Double click on the Favorites folder to open it

·        Go to View on the menu bar

·        Select Arrange Icons and then by Name

·        Close the windows
