Windows Messenger Edition
Instructions to put Messenger shortcut on the desktop
(if not already there):
- Double click to open My Computer
- Double click Local Disk C: at top of screen
- Click Show
contents of this folder. (if contents of drive are hidden)
- Double Click Program Files
- Double Click Messenger
- Right click on msmsgs.exe and select Send
To-> Desktop (create shortcut)
Creating .NET Passport (if don’t have one already, a.k.a hotmail account):
- Click on Click
here to sign in
- Click Next
- Click Next
- Select the button marked No at the top of the page and click Next
- Click Next
(A new browser window will open)
- In open window, type in school email address in
box labeled E-mail Address
- Fill in the two boxes below with the password
you use to log on to the school network

- In the box below Registration Check, enter the
characters displayed above it.
(e.g. “ADBAZJHG”)
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and
re-enter your email address in the very bottom box.
- Click I
Agree
- On the next page, click Continue (the window will close)
- Back in the Windows Messenger box, click Next
- Click Finish
(Windows Messenger will sign in and a message box will pop up)
Verifying your passport (Message box that popped up)
- Open your email inbox
- Open the message from Microsoft with the header Please verify your Microsoft .NET
Passport e-mail address
- Click on the first link in the body of the
message (link will open a new window)
- In the window, click Continue
- In the next window, enter your password in the
box and click Sign In
- When a warning box pops up, click Yes, then OK
- Close window
- In windows messenger, go to File ► Sign out
- Then choose File
► Sign In
- If it doesn’t automatically sign in, re-enter
password and choose display name (this is the name others on your list
will see)
Adding a Contact
- In Windows Messenger, go to Tools ► Add a
contact
- Click Next
- In the box, type in the email address of the
contact you want to add (Contact MUST already have a .NET passport)
- If you want to add another contact, click next
and repeat steps 1-3
- If finished adding contacts, click Finish
