Assessment Summary:
Home directions are written out by steps.  Parents will initial off homework each night.

Student Directions:

You as the parent are the teacher.  Students will look at letters and name them.  Students will look at letters and give letter sounds.  Students will decode simple three letter words in flash cards.

Rubric:

Number of Letter sounds and names given.  1 (1-7), 2 (8-13), 3(14-20), 4(20-25), 5(26)   Decoding simple three letter words  1-Is beginning to show attempts at sounding out   3-Partially correct attempts in 50% of words given   5-Shows consistent decoding with great accuracy.

Stage 3: Plan Learning Experiences and Instruction

 

Learning Activities:

This is a home school project.  The “Hook” is many different ways to approach the letter sound connection.

Pretest:  Students have been assessed on their entry level skills in letter recognition and letter name recall.  Students will be able to correctly name the letter and sound of the letters of the alphabet.

Activities: See attached Building Blocks of ABC’s chart of take home activities. Posttest: Individual assessments. These can be given in a variety of ways to test the concept. Teacher will give letter name, and student will give sound.  Students will look at letters and give letter sound.  Teacher will give letter sound, and student will name letter.  Student will look at letters, and give letter name and sound.  The teacher gives a letter name or sound, and the student writes the letter.  Student can decode simple three letter words.
