After reading the Caldecott Honor Book, A Chair for My Mother by Vera Williams, the students will participate in A Chair of My Own, where they look through catalogs to find a chair that they would like to buy. They will team with a partner of earn money to purchase their chair. Each child gets one number cube, a supply of play money, a chart to record their earnings and a bank/jar for saving the money earned. Each week for 6-9 weeks they rol
l for the amount earned and record on their chart. Children continue rolling the number cube, recording their weekly pay, and totaling the money they have earned until they reach enough to buy their chair.

The student will have accurate information on their A Chair of My Own Chart and will be
able to verbally explain their chart.
