The students assume the role of an entrepreneur to create a kite business. They will select a kite design and compare the costs of producing different numbers of kites at different prices to find the combination that creates a good profit.

They will then produce a sample of their kite and the advertising materials to accompany the kite. The first graders will then be allowed to place orders for the kites, based on the design and the advertising campaign. The entrepreneur can then calculate his actual profits.

Student Directions:
You are an entrepreneur of a company that makes kites. Select a kite design and compare the costs of producing different numbers of kites at different prices to find the combination that creates a good profit.

Then produce a sample of their kite and the advertising materials to accompany the kite. The first graders will then be allowed to place orders for the kites, based on your model design and the advertising campaign. Based on orders you can then calculate your actual profits.

Write a report for the share-holders of your company, explaining the costs of production, advertising and other costs. Include information about total sales and total profits.

Be sure that your report is accurate and that you are poised and persuasive in your ad campaign.
