Summary:
Mathematics will come to life for the fifth grade students as they are faced with inheriting their family's small, run down video/DVD business. Throughout the year, students will unite as one family and be involved in many business decisions that could make or break their business.

Assessment Summary:
The students assume the role of an entrepreneur to create a video/DVD business. They will establish the business, compare weekly sales, and business decisions to find the combination that creates a profit. Each week, prior to the business opening, the entrepreneurs will have department meetings to discuss future business decisions based upon last weeks performance.

Student Directions:
The class has inherited a small, rundown video/DVD business. Your task is to successfully start and run the business. As entrepreneurs you will be establishing departments to smoothly run the business. Simulation cards that require team problem solving skills will be distributed to each department dictating what has occurred throughout the week. Policies and procedures will be adjusted based upon the information received. Weekly department meetings will be held to discuss future business decisions to obtain a profit.

A bi-annual report will be written and submitted explaining the business decisions made and profits or losses during the first half of the year.
