Stage 2: Determine Acceptable Evidence

 

Assessment Summary:
Each student will prepare a survey for the freshmen students at school that asks what students believe to be the top ten stressors, the top ten ways to manage these stressors, and the top 5 ways the stressors impact the functioning of the body’s systems.  Rank responses by age and gender.  Then make bar graphs to illustrate the results. 

Student Directions:

You have been hired by a local school district to conduct a survey on factors that cause stress and devise recommendations for students to reduce stress.  You need to prepare a report that includes the results of your survey and gives specific suggestions for students to reduce the level of stress that they experience in their daily lives.

Homework – The student will take a pre and post assessment analysis on their personal stress.

Quiz - - The quiz consists of 10 multiple-choice questions, 20 matching, and 20 true false questions. The quiz content includes unit vocabulary, definitions, and recalling of facts.

 

Stage 3: Plan Learning Experiences and Instruction

 

Learning Activities:

Students are given a pre-test and post test on their personal stress.  

Background discussion on stressors, managing strategies, and health consequences.

Seventh Heaven video “A cry for help”.  Question and answer discussion.

Teacher lecture with class discussion.

Informational worksheets on the managing stress.

Peer critique of stress surveys.  Each student will critique the classes survey worksheets.  The students will then be able to update and finalize their surveys.  Surveys will then be posted around the classroom for other classes to view

Story critique - Each student will critique a short story.  How the main characters respond to their stressors and greatly affects the plot or the story line.

Students are given a post test on their personal stress.
