Student Directions:

You are an architect who has been assigned to study the styles of architecture in Cheney.  In order to document and preserve Cheney’s history, draw and print a 3 dimensional house with appropriate textures and architectural features.  You need to prepare a report about how your house was influenced by the different architectural styles found in town.

Other assessment evidence to be collected:

Slide show of architecture, walking tour in their town to identify those features seen in slides.

Test where architectural features were identified in written form.

 

Stage 3: Plan Learning Experiences and Instruction

 

Learning Activities:

Display of floor plans, drawings of houses, clay houses and architectural books.

The goal is to make students more aware of their own surroundings.

Slides of styles of roofs, windows and other architectural details. 

Students follow along with an architectural hunt sheet..

A walking tour of their town to look for identified features.

Graphic organizer of architectural styles.

A drawing of a residence featuring textures of brick, shingles, siding etc…

Drawing is transferred to printing plate and textures added.

Two color prints are matted and finished with printmaking details.

Students reflect on their print and present how their house was influenced by local architectural styles.
