Summary:
Students will discuss the various prejudices that exist in society today prior to reading the stories, Flowers for Algernon, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Dinner Party. After reading each piece, students will reflect on the story, identify the type of prejudice present in each, and compare and contrast the prejudice at the time of the writing to present day.

You are an anthropologist. After reading the story, "The Dinner Party," identify the type of prejudice displayed in the story. Write a paper for presentation at a conference about the changes related to society's view of women today compared to the opinion of women in the story.

Read the novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird." Write character descriptions of some of the main characters in the book "To Kill a Mockingbird," detailing the characteristics of each that display prejudice.

After reading "Flowers for Algernon" and "To Kill a Mockingbird", have the students work in groups to list the ways prejudice was shown in the two stories then write down ways that those prejudices have changed today. Have the groups list those noted changes on a large piece of paper for the entire class to discuss.
