Creating a PowerPoint Presentation
To Create Slides
- It is
a good idea to storyboard your presentation before beginning
- Open PowerPoint
- Click
the Design Template radio
button
- Click OK
- Select
a template. It is best to pick a
light colored background in most cases.
- Click OK
- Select
a layout for the title slide
- Click OK
- Click
and enter the title, your name and other desired information
- To add
a new slide, Insert Þ New Slide (or Ctrl M)
- Click
a layout and click OK
- Add
the desired text
- Repeat
until you have finished your presentation
- Avoid
putting too much text on a slide.
Avoid putting text close to the edge of the slide
To Save the Presentation
- File Þ
Save
- Select
the folder by clicking the drop down arrow beside the Save In box
- Name
the file in the File name box
- Click
the Save button
Save
your presentation often.
To Insert Graphics
- Select
a Design Template with a graphic and double click to insert the graphic OR
- Insert Þ
Picture Þ From File (if you have
your own graphics) or Clip Art
- Click
the drop down arrow beside Look In:
and select 3½ floppy (A:) or
other source
- Select
the graphic and click Insert
You
can resize the graphic by clicking on the graphic once and then clicking
on one of the resize boxes and dragging
- You
can also insert Word Art or sound & video clips

To Animate Graphics
- To
animate the graphic, right click on the graphic and select Custom Animation
- Select
the effects that you want and click OK.
- Use
animations sparingly

To Create Slide Transitions
- Select
the slide you want to have a transition
- Slide Show Þ
Slide Transition
- Select
the style and speed
- Click Apply or Apply to All. It is
often wise to have the same transitions throughout
To Create Text
Effects
Select
a slide
- Click
the Animation Effects icon

- Click
the Animate Title or the Animate Slide Text icon
- Select
an animation style an click the Preview
icon
- Repeat
for each slide that you want to animate.
It is often better to use one style throughout a presentation. It is also wise to turn off or at least
turn down the sound on the computer before making a presentation. The sound effects can be distracting.
To Move Finished Slides
- Click
the Slide Sorter View icon

- Click
on the slide you want to move.
Drag and drop it in the new location.
- Save
the presentation after any changes
To Open and View a Saved Presentation
- Open PowerPoint and click the Open an existing presentation
radio button
- Click OK
- Click
the Look in drop down box and click on the file.
- Click Open
- Click
the Slide Show icon

- Left
click to move to the next slide
- Right
click for a pop up window to move to the previous slide
To Save As A PowerPoint Show That Does Not Require
PowerPoint To Run
- File Þ
Save As
- In the
Save as type box, select PowerPoint
Show (*.pps)
- Click the
Save button
