Using the Word Equation Editor

Go to Insert

Object

Scroll down on the Object type window to Microsoft Equation

Double click (or click once and then click the OK button)

Click on the different buttons to find additional symbols

You can use the numbers and other symbols off the regular keyboard and then add special math symbols as needed.
